Marisa
Veterinary Technician
Sometimes the right career path becomes clear in an unexpected moment. For Marisa, that moment came during an internship working with cannulated cattle. The cattle had unfortunately consumed trash discarded by passing motorists, making it necessary to remove debris from their stomachs. The process also allowed healthy stomach microbes to be transferred to sick cattle in need of support. Watching firsthand how the body could heal, adapt and recover left a lasting impression on her. More importantly, it confirmed that she was drawn to the medical side of animal care and wanted to be directly involved in helping animals rather than pursuing a career focused primarily on research.
That realization came after an already unique journey. Following high school, Marisa joined the United States Navy as an engineer and completed two deployments. During her time at sea, she spent many hours thinking about the future and the kind of work that would bring her fulfillment. She knew animals would always be part of that future. After studying wildlife biology at Nicholls State University, she ultimately chose to pursue veterinary medicine and graduated from Delgado Community College’s American Veterinary Medical Association-accredited Veterinary Technology program in 2022.
Before joining Gause Boulevard Veterinary Hospital in 2026, Marisa gained experience in general practice and even worked as a veterinary technician at a marine mammal facility. Today, she enjoys the variety that veterinary medicine provides. Dental cleanings are especially rewarding because she loves seeing the finished result, while radiographs help uncover answers to problems that cannot be seen from the outside. Most importantly, she values building trusting relationships with clients and helping them feel confident that their pets are receiving exceptional care.
Originally from Slidell, Louisiana, Marisa grew up surrounded by a large, close-knit family that encouraged a love of animals and the outdoors. She and her husband share their home with three dogs, ducks, snakes and a sulcata tortoise. Outside of work, she enjoys sketching, watercolor painting, hiking, cooking and reading, always looking for opportunities to learn and grow.

Mandy T.
Receptionist / Technician Assistant
Mandy’s path into veterinary medicine was not something she planned from the beginning. After college, she entered the field while searching for direction, but quickly realized how much she connected with the work. Being able to care for animals and advocate for those who cannot speak for themselves gave her a sense of purpose she had not found elsewhere.
One appointment in particular reminded Mandy that veterinary medicine is just as much about people as it is about animals. A client came in worried that her dog had mites, even though there were no clear signs during the exam. What the visit truly needed was not treatment, but reassurance. Taking the time to explain, listen, and help the owner feel confident that her pet was healthy made a lasting impression. It showed Mandy how important it is to support both the patient and the person who loves them.
Mandy began building her experience in 2023 at the Northshore Humane Society, where she worked closely with animals until April 2025. She later moved to Georgia to continue her education in veterinary medicine, but during a visit home in December 2025, she joined Gause Boulevard Veterinary Hospital as a seasonal employee. After returning to Slidell in February 2026, she became a full-time member of the team.
Today, Mandy works primarily at the front desk while also assisting the veterinary team in the back. She enjoys following up with clients to check on their pets after visits, as well as assisting with procedures like lump checks and cytology work. Being able to share good news with pet owners and help them feel at ease is one of the most rewarding parts of her role.
At home, Mandy enjoys a full house with her family and pets, including dogs, cats, birds, and even chickens, making animals a constant part of her everyday life.
